Dates are considered to be stapled on Iftar tables during Ramadan. It is proven that this humble fruit is a good source of vitamins and nutrients needed by our body while and after fasting. At iftar time, dates are consumed either fresh, dried or with a sip of water in order to break the fast. In fact, it is a good source of fiber, calcium, and potassium that helps our body to keep healthy during the holy month of Ramadan.
Dates usually grow in the tropical and desert climates of the Middle East and North African region. This fruit is important for people who lives in the desert as it contains immense nutrients and a good source of food. Dates do not spoil and resistant to insects, so it can be kept well in certain time. It has proven that having dates after fasting is beneficial and effective way to break the fast.

- Dates can help you not to overeat during iftar. It allows your stomach to prepare itself after being inactive throughout the day by activating digestive secretions and juices.
- Dates can help decrease the feeling of hunger of a person who is in fasting. As a result, he or she will not rush into excessive eating which might cause digestion problems.
- Dates are high in fiber, potassium, and calcium that is why it gives the fasting person enough source of energy and soothes a person’s stomach.
- Dates are rich in sugary vitamins fructose, it does not make a people fat. Instead, it supplies the whole body with nutrients and energy needed by a fasting person.
- Dates have alkaline salts in it. It adjusts the acidity of the blood which may result from excessive eating of red meat and carbohydrates that may cause severe health complications and issues.
- Dates neutralize your stomach from sudden change of meal. It gives a fasting person a good source of digestive nutrients that helps to minimize constipation and bowel problems.
