What makes a healthy Suhoor Meal?

Fasting can be very crucial especially during Ramadan when the summer heat is on and thirst will take its place. A nice pre-dawn meal or suhoor should be taken, just right to prepare you for a long day of fasting. Aside from iftar, suhoor meal plan should always be healthily considered. A well-balanced, nutrient-dense meal is a must as it promotes cognitive function, keeps you hydrated and provides enough energy needed by your body to stay during the whole day.
Suhoor meal plan should include a good set of proteins like Greek yogurt, quinoa, cottage cheese and tofu aside from the normal fish and meat. Avocados is an omega 3 rich food while salmon, nuts, seeds and coconut oil are excellent choices of good fats. Of course, do not let yourself dehydrated, drink plenty of water just right before you start your day.

Fruits and Vegetables
This type of food help you stay full during the day - fruits and vegetables are essential during fasting, they are rich in fiber that promotes good digestion. It also contains lots of vitamin, minerals, and phytochemicals that are vital for good health. Try a combo of quinoa, crispy chickpeas, spinach and a breakfast bowl of pomegranate.
Rice, Nuts, and Alternatives
In order to store energy in your body, high-fibre carbohydrate food like brown rice, whole wheat bread, oats, nuts, and dates will prepare you for a long day of fasting. These type of food are digested longer allowing you to sustain and store your energy levels enough for the whole day.
Meat, fish, and eggs
Meat, fish, and eggs are the obvious source of protein. It can be a good suhoor meal plan as it will help your body to repair and restore tissues and build up the immune system. Make your suhoor meal exciting by serving a right portion of skinless chicken, eggs, and feta cheese.
By incorporating healthy eating habits into your iftar and suhoor meals, you will surely have a nice and healthy fasting days during this holy month. Always remember that our goal is to consume foods that can help us stay healthy and energize for the whole day of fasting.
